Prepaid Legal Scam? Review Of Prepaid Legal, What They're Not Telling You!

The time has come to review the company Prepaid Legal.  They are a company, that for a monthly fee, one obtains a membership which provides legal counsel whenever necessary.  Prepaid Legal Service was founded in 1969 by Harland Stonecipher.  Although it did not begin as a network marketing company, it did join the MLM industry in the 1980s. By 1999, Prepaid Legal was the 33rd fastest growing company on the New York Stock Exchange. They have also been listed on Forbes 200 best small companies list.

So how does Prepaid Legal work? As a customer, you purchase an annual membership for around $300 per year. Plans are available at either $17 a month or $26 a month. The plan gives you access to legal advice on everything from creating a will, purchasing a home or just knowing your legal rights in any situation. Over 60,000 legal forms are available to members on the website with just a click of the mouse. Basically, a member can call the number on the membership card and receive a callback from a lawyer in the area of expertise that they require. Plans vary by state. <<– Just In Case You Care!

Why would someone want to use Prepaid Legal Services?  I suppose that it might be easier to call this one number than to scour the Yellow Pages looking for the type of phone number that you need. The company also suggest that while the wealthiest 10% of people use lawyers for every major decision, the rest of us do not and this is not always to our advantage. Do I think this a necessary service?
I’m not sure what my opinion is on it, but over 1 million people have decided that Prepaid Legal is for them.

Now, if one is interested in having a Prepaid Legal business, there is a little more involved.  Apparently, the only way you can join, is by filling out an application for enrollment through their website. It costs $49 to start up a business and this includes materials, training, support, a Prepaid Legal Marketing Services, marketing supplies and Online Associate Services. Right now, Prepaid Legal is really touting their timing in the industry. The state they are at 2/10 of 1% of growth potential and don’t anticipate critical mass hitting until 2%.  Critical Mass is when a company reaches a point where they grow tremendously in a short amount of time. As I have said before, it is usually good to join a company before they hit critical mass in order to maximize your income potential.

As for the compensation plan, I found it a bit difficult to understand.  It seems that they pay Prepaid Legal Associates in three different ways.  The first way to get paid is by getting commissions on every membership to Prepaid Legal that you sell. The second way to get paid is when you sign-up other people into the business and receive commissions for that. The third and final way is that you make residual income on any commissions earned by your team members when they sign up people into the business and/or sell memberships to Prepaid Legal.  The part that confused me was that they pay on five different levels according to how many memberships you sell per month. And on these memberships they pay you in advance commission on a one-year basis.  For example, if I sell a Prepaid Legal membership to someone, I get paid a years worth of commission. But, if that person cancels their membership before the year is up I will get what is called a “chargeback”.  A chargeback is basically what it sounds like. You have to pay back any commissions earned by member cancels early. I’m not a huge fan of this type of compensation plan.

Traditionally, when we join a company like Prepaid Legal, we are going to be taught to approach every person you’ve ever known and try to get them to either sign on as a member or join your team.  Let’s face it folks, this is the hard way of doing things. Wouldn’t you rather talk to people that actually care about joining a network marketing company?  Wouldn’t you rather use a pain-free, surefire way to gain success in this industry?

So, whether or not you join Prepaid Legal doesn’t really matter.  You can join any company you want.  However, if you don’t have the skills necessary to attract hundreds and thousands of people into your organization YOU WILL FAIL!

Do you have the money to pay for your children’s college?  Are you secure in your job?  Will you have a comfortable retirement?  I hope that you can answer yes to all three of these questions.  If you can’t however you NEED to find a way to succeed NOW!

That's a pretty lame und unsupported blog. Seem's that it was written by a disappointed ex prepaidlegal associate letting off steam. I've been using prepaid legal for a while and it saved me lots of money as far as consulting lawyers. In the point of sales it seems challenging trying to keep customers to be a client for a minimum time of a year but hey, you only fail if you stop working. And if you can't dedicate yourself to something fully, then you'll fail at anything. You make very vague statements

Hey “guest”! lol Thanks for checking out our blog. I agree with most of your statements. Don't appreciate you ripping on our blog, however, and no, we have never been members of Pre Paid Legal. All of the facts and figures where taken from the company website or other sites that we could verify as legit. But yes, we do have our opinions about every company and we don't hold back. Obviously, Pre Paid Legal is a successful company, it's just not one that we would ever be a part of for many reasons. Thanks again, Nick.

It’s not a bad blog in general, so I’m not ‘ripping it’ or what you’re doing. :-) You have a good web presence, and I wish more people on my mlm team grasped internet marketing as well as you do… But very sloppy research, which unfortunately is way too common in the blogosphere… So many ‘marketers’ throw together poor articles just to target keywords (pseudo attempts to “hope” for some google traffic to their sites)… For anyone that genuinely wants information about pre-paid legal, the information here is really not accurate. Lots of misinformation. I mean the facts are just plain wrong… You said you got some of this info off the company website. If anyone’s reading this and really wants to learn about the company, I recommend them instead just going to the company website directly! Or even wikipedia… Or somewhere else. But so much is wrong here. Nick even says he doesn’t understand the comp plan, lol. So not really an article that adds any value.

Prepaid legal is brilliant, but a SCAM. It is brilliant for it uses the same concept that most insurance companies use. It is called the “Orphan clause” simply put they recruit people to go hit their family and friends. This puts the customers who are in the friend or family category in a position for forgive any mistakes without some legal ramifications. Why? because most people will not sue a family member or a friend. Even if it is about the principal of the matter. Back to the Insurance companies. After they have milked some poor starter for all of his family and friends and he has a slump where he is not getting any business, they fire him and the contract states the customers belong to XYZ company. Now the agent is starting from new if he or she goes to work for another insurance company. the policies become “Orphans” which then are distributed to the favorite sales people and the brown nosers.

From a business stand point it is brilliant but ethically it is wrong for it is set up to work this way. it is a pure statistical model for which they exploit everyone with promises of fame and fortune.

I spoke to the Attorney Generals Office today in Salem Oregon and he suggested staring a class action lawsuit against the people that signed me up and the company in Oklahoma. Not a bad idea.

My dissatisfaction comes from the attorney firm who is in Oregon are simply incompetent and could not litigate their way out of a wet paper bag. the attorney I dealt with was either drunk, asleep or stoned, or all three. He was barely coherent.

Fact is this folks. You do not need an attorney. The only people that benefit from an attorney are people who are in fact guilty in a criminal matter. Civil stuff, both state and Federal can be fought by the parties. So what if they have an attorney from a big name firm? if it is BS it is BS. look up Summary Judgement on google and it walks you thru it step by step and if you have not done the things you are accused of, then you have no worries, for the Judges know BS when they hear it. It is initimidation like the school yard bully…” I am going to get someone to beat you up and you better be scared” it is the same mentality in court. The Judges know it. They see it daily and are tired of it. Most will say “grow up” and get over it and move on.

So who ends up winning in this? both attorneys after some squabble over some petty issue ends up costing each party 50 grand. it is throwing good money after bad.

PPL today told me that my letter to cancell my policy back in December due to not having a date stamp on it and having not sent it registered mail are now shafting me for 9 months worth of dues. They all themselves an ethical and honest company? I think not. They are scammers and I am now working on a class action suit which is juicy. Truth is they have been found guilty of fraud on many occasions.

Some information, most states, such as Oregon require that the selling party who has taken your money be licensed, in Oregon it is a must and must have a license and or be an LLC. IF they are not and they took your money to pass it onto Oklahoma where the real criminals of PPL are sitting then they have violated state law, a small fine, but nevertheless it is breaking the rules.

Surely this is not about money, it is pure principal. For example in a Federal case in Federal court the courts require that any mail be sent regular mail first class, grab an envelope, slap the correct postage on it and send it to the courts, if they do not get it, they let you know and you resend it. Not one item needs to have or be sent registered mail. This is a way for Oklahoma to scam people like myself who actually earn a living the honest way. PPL is a scam folks and their service is to service themselves.. the will thing is nonsense also as it is and can be done on a simple form in 30 minutes and yet the PPL providers sell it as a 500 to 700 service. LOL funny…. If you polish a turd you still have a turd.

PPL then trains its distributors to hide behind ” oh we are a publically traded company and are all legit” well so was Enron, Bank of America, Tyco, and Goldman Sachs the number one reason our nation is screwed right now and they are still in business and we all know what illegal stuff they were doing.
